622 Barcode Numbers<\/h2>\n

Barcode numbers beginning with 622 are the barcode numbers that come directly from GS1 Egypt. The ONLY way to get numbers starting with 622 is to join GS1-Egypt \u2013 this means completing their membership forms, and paying a joining fee and annual membership fees to GS1 \u2013 which is VERY expensive.(GS1 only license the numbers to you \u2013 so you have to pay their annual fees every year for the rest of your product life).<\/p>\n

Many people mistakenly believe that the first few digits of the barcode numbers show the country of origin of the product. However the barcode number says NOTHING accurate about the country of origin of the product. The only thing that these first few digits show is the country of origin of the number.\u00a0 So in reality, products that come from Egypt can have any barcode number on them.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to demonstrate that your product is made in Egypt, then the best way to do this is to print \u201cMade in Egypt<\/strong><\/span>\u201d or similar on the product. This is an advertising claim and must be provable if challenged.\u00a0 (Some manufacturers also print \u201cMade in Egypt\u201d directly above the barcode to help customers).<\/span><\/p>\n

The myth of the barcode number showing the country of origin of the product is an old myth that has been thoroughly debunked. Please see this Snopes article<\/a> on the origins of this myth as well as a debunking of it.<\/p>\n

All barcodes and barcode systems are designed for international use, so there are virtually no restrictions based on the country of origin world wide. Any specific examples of stores placing any type of restrictions on barcodes can be seen here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A common misconception is that GS1 is the only way to obtain legally registered barcode numbers. However, it can be assured that our barcodes are completely legitimate. When GS1 merged with UCC (Uniform Code Council) in the 1990s, GS1 had a lawsuit filed against them by original UCC members pertaining to unnecessary membership fees. As a result, GS1 had to forfeit control of the original barcodes issued by the UCC, and license fees for these barcodes are no longer required.<\/p>\n

These barcode numbers are now bought by resellers, like us, and sold on an individual basis. They are new, unused, and still part of the GS1 system.<\/strong>This is why we are able to sell barcodes at a one-off cost and without any membership fees. This makes buying from us, rather than through GS1, far more cost-effective.<\/strong><\/p>\n
